a glossary of concepts new, blue, and borrowed

Deleuze and Guattari elaborate a conception and practice of philosophy based around forming, inventing, and fabricating concepts. Concepts, both formed and self-positing, are composed of combinations and multiplicities. They are defined by elements and exist as fragmentary wholes. Concepts have histories and becoming, although they often zig zag, change planes and directions, although not in terms of spatial characteristics but rather intensive coordinates.

Concepts act as centers of vibrations through which energy flows, by how and to what degree they are animated by bodies in movement. The embodied concept acts to shows thought’s territories, and through that as the contour, the contour, the configuration, the constellation of an event to come.

Our conceptual vocabulary, then, is not only a matter of language as communication of the concept, but rather is a factory, or laboratory for their creation. How to do things with words, to form concepts, that shape collective becomings and transformations, that then feedback into the formation and development of additional conceptual tools to understand these becomings and compositions.
